Fodor's Expert Review Café Batia

$$ Center City Eastern European

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

A longtime favorite, this café has a full menu of old-fashioned Eastern European favorites. Try a bowl of matzoh-ball soup, leg of goose, or stuffed cabbage for a taste of what Grandma used to prepare. If you're adventurous, sample some of the less well-known dishes, such as pupiks, which is Yiddish for gizzards. Vegetarians can enjoy a spread of specialty deli salads.
