Fodor's Expert Review Dan Accadia Herzliya

22 Ramat Yam St., Tel Aviv, Tel Aviv, 46851, Israel See on Map

The three buildings of this seaside hotel are surrounded by flower-filled gardens that lead to a swimming pool overlooking the sea. The standard rooms in the older part of the hotel are tastefully decorated and have balconies with sea views. The newer section has rooms facing either the pool or the marina. Rooms on the ground floor have their own outdoor whirlpools, making them perfect for couples. Organized activities keep children and teenagers amused on weekends, and there are midweek activities for kids in summer.

The Dan Accadia is no spring chicken (it was built in 1970), but its rooms are freshly renovated and bright. Warm beige, crisp white and nautical blue decor is modern, and guests with money to burn can book a ground-floor garden chalet with a private patio looking directly out onto the sea.

YOU SHOULD KNOW Many rooms feature two twin beds rather than a genuine king, so don't fall through the crack (literally); make sure to request exactly the type of bed you want and confirm at check-in.

Big and clean, with marble countertops, branded toiletries and both tubs and showers, you don't need to worry that you packed too many lotions -- there's room for all of them in here.

Torn between finishing your TV show and jumping in the tub? Never fear. The Dan Accadia bathrooms have televisions in the tub, so you can continue your "Friends" binge while deep conditioning your hair.

Straightforward and standard, the lobby is big and corporate, but its unoriginality can be forgiven since its many seating areas also offer beautiful views of the sea.

The pool is large and there are plenty of bright white deck chairs. If you prefer to swim without chlorine, the seashore is just a few feet away.

YOU SHOULD KNOW This is a kid-friendly property, and that philosophy extends to the pool, where a kiddie pool and an on-site kids' club mean that there will be lots of little ones splashing around you while you swim.

Fully equipped if not a tad overpriced, the spa is a one-stop shop for any beauty treatments you may crave.

In addition to a sports room offering all the standard aerobic and cardio equipment, there's also the option to book a personal trainer, arrange horseback riding, or play tennis at nearby courts.

There are a number of options for dining here, all of them pretty tasty: The breakfast buffet, served in a handsome room with sweeping sea views, is extensive and well-stocked; the lobby coffee shop offers garden seating and a light menu of pizzas, sandwiches and tasty salads; grilled meat lunches are served at the pool bar and room service is available around the clock. During summer high season, the hotel also launches festive outdoor BBQ dinners with live music and creative flair.

The Accad Wine Bar in the Accadia lobby is handsome and well-stocked with a focus on Israeli tipples and a knowledgable bartender happy to fill in his guests about Israeli viticulture.

Getting Around

Herzliya sits just north of Tel Aviv but runs at a much slower pace. To travel anywhere from the hotel other than the beachfront, your best bet is to order a taxi or rent a car.

For fresh seafood that's packed with Israeli flavors, head to the Herzliya marina and visit Derby Bar (15-minute walk); if you're into wacky presentation and cutting-edge Israeli chef masters, then you'll love the imaginative fare at Segev (8-minute drive). At the Tel Aviv Port, Kitchen Market (20-minute drive) offers beautiful views, divine Israeli flavors and lovely ambiance.

Beer lovers will feel right at home at Inga Bar (5-minute drive), a laid-back pub and gathering place; while those who prefer perfectly crafted cocktails will go bananas for Bellboy (25-minute drive), one of Tel Aviv's most prestigious cocktail bars which serves up sweet concoctions with a speakeasy theme.

Modern rooms but a legacy location: For a traveler who prefers a traditional amenity-packed hotel with gracious service and a beautiful view, this property will tick all the right boxes.
