Beaches

The Sea of Galilee—a freshwater lake—is a refreshing but rocky place for a swim. You can recline on pleasant commercial beaches with amenities ranging from cafeterias to water parks, or on free beaches with minimal facilities. Note that after several years of drought conditions in the region, the water level remains low.

September's Kinneret Swim, a tradition since 1953, has amateur (3½ km [2 miles] and 1½ km [1 mile]) categories.

Gai Beach. Open May to October, Gai Beach has a private bathing beach and one of the country's most attractive water parks. HaTchelet Beach. Near the northern entrance to Tiberias, this well-kept private beach is open May to October. Picnic areas and raft rentals are available. Amenities: food and drink; lifeguards; parking (fee); showers; toilets; water sports. Best for: swimming. Rte. 90, Tiberias, Northern District. 04/672–0105. NIS 50.
