Edfu

Although the town itself is somewhat dull, Edfu's temple, dedicated to Horus, would make even Cecil B. DeMille gasp. It is the most intact of Egyptian temples you are likely to see, and it is a most unexpected and breathtaking sight. Visiting Edfu's temple, set at the edge of the modern town of Edfu—portions of which peer over the temple enclosure wall—is the closest you can get to being an ancient Egyptian going on a pilgrimage. To get the full effect of this marvel, buy your tickets and walk along the exterior of the temple, around the pylon, to the end of the courtyard toward the birth house, without turning around. At the end of the courtyard, turn suddenly to face the great Temple of Horus at Edfu. A new feature at Edfu is the addition of a nightly Sound & Light Show.
