When to Go

Cairo is only uncomfortable for a couple of months a year. Spring and autumn are both gorgeous, with warm days and cool nights, though spring brings the khamaseen dust storms that can turn the air yellow for a couple of days. Summer is very hot, but relatively dry. Winter is brief, eight weeks at most, and chillier than you might expect at night, though never truly cold. Cairo gets a few rainy days a year, mostly in winter. Ramadan, the holy month of fasting, brings both rewards and inconveniences for visitors.
