Money Matters

Aswan has a good supply of banks, exchange offices, and ATMs where you can exchange or withdraw money. Exchange offices tend to be open long hours, usually daily and until 10 pm or 11 pm. Banks open shorter hours and may not be open on weekends. However, almost every five-star hotel has an honest-to-goodness bank on property, as well as one or more ATMs. And you don’t have to be a hotel guest to use their services. American Express and Thomas Cook also change money. While some hotels may have cashier desks to change money, don’t count on it; you’ll likely be directed to the nearest bank or ATM. Be aware that ATMs, especially at airports, may not be replenished regularly. Have a range of options, including Egyptian currency, in addition to credit cards and an ATM card.
