10 Weird World Records That’ll Make You Go, “What? Why?”

Including the record for most pencils in a beard!

What started as a book of record-breaking achievements to settle pub arguments has become a global database with 60,789 active record titles. The Guinness World Records is an incredible repository of unbelievable achievements made by people around the world along with many natural occurrences. While some records are inspiring (solving a Rubik’s cube while blindfolded and the world’s longest marriages), there are a few jaw-dropping ones that you wouldn’t think were possible. Here we have a list of the 10 weirdest world records in recent years that sure seem unreal.

Fastest Garbage Bin Motor Car

Andy Jennings of the UK drove the fastest wheelie bin at the speed of 72.568 km/h. He designed and built this garbage bin motor car and raced it at an event at Elvington airfield in North Yorkshire, England. No sidecar, though.

Most Spoons Balanced on the Body

In what brings to mind X-Men villain Magneto, Iranian Abolfazl Saber Mokhtari balanced 85 spoons on his body. He can balance anything on his body, he says, including a human being! “I focus on whatever I am trying to stick to my body, making me capable of transferring my energy and power to them.”

Heaviest Vehicle Pulled by Hair

Cars have engines and they don’t need to be pulled by hair or beard. But that didn’t stop India’s Asha Rani to take a 12,216 kg (26,932 lbs) vehicle on a spin. Her shampoo brand should snap it up for a marketing campaign: hair so strong, it can pull trucks.

4 OF 10

Loudest Burp

If there’s a belching sound coming from Down Under, it’s probably courtesy of Australia’s Neville Sharp. Sharp has been practicing for decades to give the world the loudest burp. Dreams come true if you burp hard enough, at 112.4 decibels to be specific. For comparison, hearing damage is possible at 120 decibels and a jackhammer is roughly 100 decibels.

5 OF 10

Most Piercings on a Tongue

How do you eat with 20 piercings on your tongue? That’s a question to ask American daredevil Francesco Vacca, who has been breaking his own tongue piercings records. He held it at 16 piercings, then at 18, and now at 20.

6 OF 10

Most Skips Over Your Own Hair

Ivory Coast artist Laetitia Ky can do 60 skips over her own hair in 30 seconds. The website explains, “For the purposes of this record, artificial hair extensions are permitted provided that they are added to the person’s existing natural hair.”

7 OF 10

Most Big Macs Eaten

You think you love burgers? Meet Donald Gorske of Winsconsin who has consumed 32,340 Big Macs in his life. An average of two burgers a day since 1972!

He first got recognized for the most Big Mac burgers eaten in a lifetime in 1999, and now he’s broken his own record. He’s so in love with the Big Mac that he has every container and receipt to keep track of every single burger he has eaten.

8 OF 10

Most Pencils in a Beard

Joel Strasser of Utah will never run out of a pencil—he has 456 in his beard. While attempting to break his own previous record of 450 pencils in the beard, it took him more than an hour to accessorize his facial hair and just 10 seconds to shake it all off.

Strasser has held several beard-related Guinness Records: most paper straws, most baubles, most toothpicks, most clothespins, and most forks.

9 OF 10

Farthest Marshmallow Propelled and Caught in the Mouth

Has it ever happened to you that you were craving a marshmallow and someone catapulted it across the field and straight into your mouth? No? Just Dallas Anderson and Jon Paleka then? These two Utah residents propelled and caught a marshmallow in the mouth from a distance of 68.34 meters (224 feet).

10 OF 10

Most Soap Bubbles Blown Inside One Large Bubble

Performance artist Su Chung-Tai of Taiwan has etched his name on many bubble-breaking records. He delicately bounced a soap bubble 424 times; blew 3,766 bubbles from a single wand dip; got 61 bubbles on paper in a minute—all world records. Another soothing one to watch is most soap bubbles blown inside a single large bubble: 1,339, almost double of his last record of 779.
