Known as the “River of Five Colors” and the “Liquid Rainbow,” Caño Cristales in Colombia is perhaps one of the most beautiful rivers in the world. But for years the vividly colored waterway was off limits to travelers due to it being located in the middle of Farc guerilla territory. However, over the last 10 years, a peace deal has made this miraculous natural wonder more accessible to adventurous tourists. Now visitors are able to take in the crystalline waters which, after the rainy season, are tinted a deep, berry-red by the unique plant species that occupy the river.
