#NotBadNews: May the Mask Be With You

It’s Monday, and that means we are bringing another week of good news your way. Today we say thank you to teachers and celebrate Star Wars.

Welcome to #NotBadNews, our new (and hopefully short-lived) daily column where we round up the good, surprising, and weird things that have happened around the world during this coronavirus pandemic.

Sounds of New York

For those missing the sounds of the city—honking cars, people yelling at all hours of the night, rush hour—the New York Public Library has just the thing for you. This week, they published their very own “Missing Sounds of New York” playlist, where you can listen to things like, “I’d Call a Cab Anywhere” and “The Not-Quite-Quiet Library.”

For city-dwellers who find the sound of honking lulls them to sleep, this is your new white-noise playlist.

Saying Thanks to Teachers

Today kicks off Teacher Appreciation Week, and it seems there has never been a time when a thank you was more warranted. Most teachers were given a matter of days to transition from classroom teaching to online, something many were not trained for—but they adapted, and school remains in session!

Ewe Won’t Believe This

The sheep have taken over! This city in Turkey saw something that caused many-a double takes—a flock of sheep crowded the city streets, running free down the road one night. This video from Samsun is so crazy, you just might have to watch it to believe.

While reduction of smog and pollution was to be expected, this phenomenon is not one we could have seen coming. With that said—sheep, please take over LA next!

The Best Looks From This Year’s Met Gala

It’s Met Gala Monday and we’re missing the excitement that comes with fashion’s biggest night. While the event isn’t happening, fans at home are finding other ways to celebrate the occasion with Met Gala worthy garments of their own creation.

People at home are recreating their favorite Met Gala looks with the things they have lying around, and the results are incredibly impressive.

May the Fourth Be With You

Star Wars day occurs every year on May 4 (“May the fourth be with you!”). Senator Cory Booker used it as chance to remind you to wear a mask.

If all else fails, your old Halloween costume might just have the mask you’re in need of.

Check-in every day for an update on the wonderful and weird things happening in our current coronavirus world.
