This Is the Cutest Guidebook in the Whole World

This summer, Fodor’s is launching a new kind of way to discover a destination.

Fodor’s Travel has been in the guidebook business since 1936 and since then, a lot has changed (the spy who started our company died and came back to life on Twitter, we’ve expanded from one book on Europe to cover 7,500 destinations worldwide, and we’ve created a Webby Award-winning website).

But there are some things that have stayed the same. We’re still committed to showing you how you can have the trip of a lifetime: we’re obsessed with art, architecture, food, and history, and we know where to find the best bar in town.

Fodor’s recommendations are about seeking out what’s rare and special—the things you can’t find anywhere else in the world. And with this thought in mind, we’ve created a new line of Inside Guides: thoughtful, highly-curated guides that take you neighborhood-by-neighborhood through some of the world’s coolest cities like Brooklyn, Lisbon, Nashville, Berlin, and Paris. Next year, we’ll be publishing guides to Mexico City and Portland, Oregon.

Fodor’s Inside Guides are the type of guidebook your cool artsy friend might use. They’re made for people who want to savor local experiences, dine on both Michelin-starred foie gras and street tacos, and discover the pulsing heartbeat of a city. We are firm believers that you can be hip at any age and that curiosity has no demographic.

Also, these guides are cute as heck! We hired illustrators from all over the world to depict their favorite cities with original illustrations of landmarks, food, and quirky only-in-this-city items. The first chapter in each book has an overview of the area, including can’t-miss sights that aren’t just for tourists, the city’s coolest places to stay, and tours worth taking to get to know a destination in a creative way. You’ll also find a bit of history, a primer on what you should be eating and drinking at restaurants, and what you should bring home as a souvenir.

Each chapter of the book is dedicated to a single neighborhood with recommendations of what to see and do and what to eat and drink. There’s an illustrated map in every section that’s your ultimate guide to the neighborhood, highlighting all the best places. In the back of the book, there’s also a pullout map so you can leave the book in your hotel room and head out with a confident list of the city’s must-sees.

Fodor’s Inside Guides are a new approach to the traditional guidebook, giving you a completely new way to discover your favorite cities. You’ll never travel the same way again.
