In 1989, ICEHOTEL opened in Sweden, making history as the first hotel to be made out of snow and ice. Now, 27 years later, ICEHOTEL is claiming another first.
Over the course of its nearly three-decade long history, the hotel itself was melted down and rebuilt with a new blueprint every year. But now the frosty accommodations will be the first of its kind to stay open year-round. An innovative solar-powered cooling technology will allow guests to enjoy ICEHOTEL’s bar, gallery and luxury suites no matter the season.
The hotel, located just over 120 miles from the Arctic Circle, will uphold its tradition of annual regeneration as parts of the hotel will be melted each year in order to create new ice-based art for the enjoyment of its guests.
