While Brussels’s Grand-Place boasts beautiful architecture, it can’t be denied that its color palette is a little on the muted side. But for four days every two years, the city’s central square blooms with a colorful floral carpet. The Brussels Flower Carpet was first made in 1971 and was so popular that it became a beloved tradition. This year’s iteration features a carpet made up of 600,000 flowers and was designed by Fuji Suzuki, a young Japanese artist, in celebration of Belgium’s diplomatic relationship with Japan. The construction of the carpet started on August 12th and will be on display through the 15th.
