Sofie Mikhaylova

Sofie Mikhaylova is a writer and artist who likes to dip her feet into anything that seems interesting to her. Previously working as a music and pop culture writer, her work has appeared in Vice, Mixmag, Double Dot Magazine, Paste Magazine, and more, and is new to travel writing, but eager to prove herself and share her stories and perspectives as a queer female traveller. She currently works as a freelance writer, curator, and artist manager, but can generally always be seen wearing a lot of hats. Born in Kaliningrad, Russia, she is now based temporarily in Toronto, Canada after living in Daegu, South Korea and travelling Central America for a year. Sofie published her debut poetry collection via Bottlecap Press in April 2022, and has served as a Polaris Prize Juror for the last three years. She's given many talks on the music industry, and hopes to continue to keep her toes in there while exploring the travel world and finding a way to merge all her interests. Sofie graduated with a Bachelor of Journalism from Toronto Metropolitan University and holds certificates in teaching English.
