Meggie Tran

As a traveler with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and social anxiety, Meggie Tran’s mission has been to destigmatize mental illnesses through travel. Founded in late 2020, her blog, Mindful Meggie, features mental health/travel narratives and practical resources to help people with a mental illness travel. She aims to normalize the mental health topic with her lighthearted storytelling and bubbly personality. Her work will also appear on Authority Magazine and Thrive Global. As a second-generation Vietnamese American, Meggie understands the unique challenges with addressing mental health in Asian communities. Through her work with the Asian Pacific Islander Coalition at Mesa Community College, she has spoken openly about her mental health and organized mental health panels with professional speakers. She is an English major at Arizona State University, where she attended the prestigious Desert Nights, Rising Stars Writers Conference as a 2021 Humanities Scholar. She is also a proud alumnus of Mesa Community College, with which she studied abroad in Costa Rica and learned that live termites are tasty. Somehow, she was a finalist at the Southwest Communication Association’s public speaking competition despite having undiagnosed social anxiety. After living in Jefferson City, MO; Broken Arrow, OK; Kissimmee, FL; and Mesa, AZ, she has settled down in Oceanside, CA (for now).
