Marinel de Jesus

Marinel de Jesus is a former lawyer who now writes, treks and lives globally and runs her social enterprise, Brown Gal Trekker, to promote the voices of women, immigrants, people of color and indigenous communities in travel and outdoor publications. She has written for Alpinist, Backpacker Magazine, Outside, Adventure Journal, Huffington Post, among a number of others. She is also the founder of a human rights focused media platform, The Porter Voice Collective, which advocates for the labor rights of porters in Peru, Nepal and Tanzania. Marinel is an advocate for justice, equity, diversity and inclusion in the outdoors and has acted as a JEDI consultant and ambassador for various outdoor brands. She leads guided equity-driven treks globally as a way to promote Workfoce Equity tourism and create an opportunity for travelers to elevate the roles of women and indigenous communities in the tourism industry.
