Laura Wheatley

Laura Wheatley is a travel writer, photographer, and artist curator based out of New York City. Over a decade ago she discovered her love of travel and storytelling while living on the French Riviera. After earning her bachelor’s degree in hospitality and tourism management she began her adventures around the world, writing about food and culture as she went. Although she is drawn to destinations across the globe, exploring the intoxicating beauty of the Japanese culture has been a great love of hers. Fascinated by Japanese artisans' dedication to their craft, she planned and coordinated month-long trips throughout Japan to photograph and write articles promoting their exquisite works of art. These projects took her all over the country to discover woodworkers, indigo dyers, potters, leatherworkers, blacksmiths, and beyond. She is passionate about using her writing and photography as a voice to showcase artists and makers around the world, helping to preserve traditions and techniques passed down through generations. Some of her work can be seen in STORIED Magazine, Eighty Degrees Magazine, and on THE KINDCRAFT. Whether it's documenting an innovative oyster farmer in Kumihama Bay or interviewing modern geisha in Tokyo, Laura aims to uncover the beauty around her, one destination at a time.
