Q&A

  • Why do you travel?

It’s such a big world and there’s so much to do and see—and learn, so I think travel is essential. Plus, when everything is clicking, nothing is more magical.

  • What’s the one thing you never travel without?

Definitely books—loaded on a Kindle and also actual books (I’ve had a Kindle die on a long flight and it put me in a panic!) and lots of sunscreen.

  • City or Country?

I love the museums, people watching, and architecture of cities but a visit to the countryside can really recharge your batteries so I’ll have to go with both.

  • What’s the first thing you do when you arrive in a new place?

I unpack…even if it’s for one night! Then I like to get one of those cartoon-y maps from the front desk that will no doubt get you lost and go exploring.

  • Train, plane, or ship?

I took an upscale overnight train through the Scottish Highlands once and loved it so it would be fun to do more scenic train trips.

  • Where did you have your most unforgettable meal?

A lobster dinner in Halifax, Nova Scotia is right up there.

  • What’s on your travel bucket list?

Vietnam and Cambodia. I’d also like to travel more in South America and see more of our national parks.

  • What’s your favorite beach in the world?

Playa La Ropa in Zihuatanejo at sunset is pretty special.

  • What is your favorite book or genre of books?

I like reading biographies…I’m intrigued by how prominent people get from A to B.

  • What are your favorite destinations to travel?

Ireland, Morocco, the UK, Italy; closer to home, New York State and New England, and I could always go back to Charleston and Cape May.
