Amy S. Eckert

For more than 20 years, Amy Eckert has been exploring the world and sharing the best experience with her readers. Her assignments have been diverse, from hiking rural Japan to exploring Beethoven’s Vienna, from exploring Australia’s aboriginal Top End to discovering a revitalized Berlin 30 years after the fall of the Wall. Amy’s deep roots in Michigan lead her to specialties in backpacking, hiking, paddling and other outdoor pursuits. Being a native Detroiter gave her a lifelong interest in contemporary art, culture, and the unique creativity visible in revitalized urban spaces. Living and studying as a college student in Germany opened the rest of the world to her. Amy’s work has been published in National Geographic Traveler, Afar, Fodors.com, The Saturday Evening Post, AARP The Magazine, Hemispheres, Backpacker, the Chicago Tribune and many other outlets, and she has authored, in full or in part, 19 guidebooks. She was named TravMedia’s Travel Writer of the Year in 2019. When she’s not traveling, Amy enjoys reading, digging in her flower beds, and sipping a nice glass of wine.
