Harper Lee’s Hometown to Become Tourist Destination

Monroeville

Monroeville, the hometown of author Harper Lee, is set to transform into a full-fledged tourist destination. Tonja Carter, Lee’s lawyer, and paper mill magnate George Landegger, are heading the efforts to turn the town that inspired To Kill a Mockingbird’s setting into the Stratford-upon-Avon of Alabama.

The plans include the “Harper Lee Trail” which will feature showcase attractions related to the author and her writings. Among the proposed sites are a Harper Lee museum, replicas of three houses that were settings in To Kill a Mockingbird. Fans of Lee and her classic novel will be able to explore the transformed Monroeville as early as March 2017.
