Fans Will Definitely Be Lining up for Kusama Museum Opening

The Shinjuku district is about to get its dose of polka dots.

Avant-garde artist Yayoi Kusama officially announced the opening of her own museum this coming October in Tokyo’s Shinjuku district. Kusama, now 88 years old, started planning the creation of her own space in 2014 with architect Kume Sukkei, but kept the project a secret until recently. Planned to open to the public on October 1st, the inaugural exhibition is titled “Creation is a Solitary Pursuit, Love is What Brings You Closer to Art” and will be on view through February 2018.

The inaugural exhibition will feature Kusama’s latest painting series “My Eternal Soul” as well as a highly anticipated new pumpkin installation. The museum expects to host biannual exhibitions accompanied by lectures and events.

Aside from the exhibition space, the five story building will house a reading and archive room, outdoor space, and museum shop. Timed tickets are currently on sale online and predicted to sell out quickly. Survival guides can help
