I have a few questions regarding an upcoming trip to Sicily.
I will be flying into Palermo. I thought I could do 3 days there and then travel by bus (?). Take the bus to Siracusa and stay 2 nights. From there I am not sure. I thought about making my way to
I would like a mix of history with some beach downtime. It will be June/July and I hope to do at least 10 days. I thought of making my way to Taormina and leave from Catania.

I will be travelling solo so I would like to make it as easy as possible without driving. I know it will be hot. I was in Croatia last year and it was very hot, but this is the time I have to travel. Hoping to hear all your suggestions and commentaries. Thanks so much.

We did a trip in Sicily just using public transport. It all went fine but each geographic area had their own transit system so finding information was hard. This was years ago, it may have changed. We flew in and out of Catania. Stayed in Ortigia, Taormina and Lipari.
The ferry timetables to Lipari were more like a suggestion but we got there which was what mattered. We used the train a bit, a gondola up to Taormina and the rest was all buses.

I have read that Taormina was underwhelming for some. Did you enjoy it?

No, we loved Sicily with the exception of Taormina.

I loved Taormina but it seems many people don't. The views are great, it's picturesque, it can be pricey but we found places to eat that were not too dear. We walked up to Castelmola one day, it was steep but great views along the way.

I didn't like Siracusa or Ortigia that much. Lipari was great, we mainly just relaxed there, eating and wandering the town. We stayed in Malta before and after Sicily. The flight from Malta to Catania is only 30 minutes. Malta was amazing, an enormous amount of history and friendly locals.

We spent 13 days in Sicily in April 2022 using only public transportation and had absolutely no problems. Airbnbs booked in advance, but train/bus only a day or two before, information was easily available on the web.

We flew into Palermo, then train to Agrigento, bus to Siracusa/Ortygia and train to Catania. We’d been to Etna and Taormina on a previous visit, so skipped them this time.

Taormina is beautiful, with breathtaking views down to the sea. But it’s terribly crowded with day trippers and can get to be a bit much. We stayed in Ortygia and loved it, not many tourists at the time we were there.

I used public transport to get about and the buses are a great way to do it.
