Lodging north of the MAD airport

We get into MAD 8 PM and head to the Basque region. What is a nice place to stay the night nearest to MAD? Thank you.

How close to Madrid?
If you're coming in after a transcontinental flight rather than an intra-European one, I wouldn't drive too far. Actually we stopped driving at all (listened, finally, to the advice here rather than pushing our luck).

We used to drive to charming, medieval Pedraza (90 min.) at the lovely Hospederķa Santo Domingo, or even further, to the ducal palace Lerma Parador (2 hrs from Barajas) when headed to the Basque Country, but I don't recommend this after a very long international flight. Been there, done that but no more (we now live here).

But if you're coming into Barajas after a short flight, the above suggestions would work, or if you want something closer, Buitrago del Lozoya is a pretty town at the foothills of the Sierra de Guadarrama and will take under an hour to reach from Barajas T4. It even has a Picasso Museum housed in the city hall.

La Beltraneja is a cute little B&B there

please don't drive after a long flight

this is not about your manhood, your multiple experiences of successful driving, it is about our safety.

More emphasis: after a short flight, but not after crossing time zones.

Start a road trip after 9pm?
I would rather sleep in one of the hotels around Barajas and rent the car the morning after.

neckervd is right, of course. I completely didn't focus on that 8 pm Barajas arrival (in winter, spring, fall?). Duh.

It took us until 9 pm to clear immigration and pick up our rental to drive to Segovia in the dark. We know that route but.... Never, ever again!
Where in the Basque Country are you headed?
