Where in Andalucia Besides Malaga, Seville and Granada

We will be in Andalucia in July. Plans are to visit Cadiz and Cordoba and parts in between. But, what parts? We are staying south of Granada on the coast for a week with our kids but we have 5 nights on our own to visit Andalucia area. We have already been to Seville and Granada so we are looking for suggestions in and around Cadiz and Cordoba and areas in between to overnight. Also, if you have been there, how many days in Cadiz and Cordoba? Vejer de la Frontera, Conil de la Frontera, Medina Sidonia, etc. are on our radar. Your suggestions would be appreciated.

I would spend a minimum of 2 nights in Cordoba. The Mezquita is amazing, and there are also other wonderful sites in Cordoba, such as the Alcazar gardens, the Roman Bridge, and the Palacio de Viana with its 12 pretty patios. The Juderia is also a wonderful place to explore; this is the old Jewish quarter with narrow lanes, white-washed buildings, patios and flowers.

Why are you eliminating Malaga? Have you been there before? We spent 2 nights in Malaga and we really enjoyed it. There is so much to see and do. Such as the walk to the top of the Alcazaba and the castle, the seaside promenade where you can have drinks and watch the sunset. There is the beach, the ferris wheel, many art museums, including the Picasso, and the Atarazanas Market. We think Malaga is under-rated and under-appreciated.

I haven't been to the white towns but one of those could be a possibility, too.

I assume you are aware that it will be very, very hot in Andalucia during July. If you can, stay in hotels with pools, and bring plenty of water with you, and wear hats and sunscreen.

I loved JEREZ.

Ubeda and Baeza are not in between Cádiz and Córdoba but they are well worth a visit.

Like a commenter above, I too loved Jerez de la Frontera. A great medieval center, flamenco in quaint, humble tabancos (sherry bars), numerous sidewalk and plaza cafes, and a generally un-touristy ambience. But then, I was there in December (2019), when most Spanish cities would probably have looked un-touristy.

ekscrunchy,
As you and I love Jerez, you might like this article by Nick Lander about his recent dining experiences there. I know we both really enjoyed La Carboná, housed in a beautiful old bodega, but he also discovered a new place, El Bichero, a 10-minute drive east of the city center. I'm putting it on my list for next time.

And speaking of your next visit, add Taberna der Guerrita to your Sanlúcar de Barrameda list!

ekscrunchy,
La Carboná in Jerez is celebrating its 30th birthday and from 9 to 15 of October, the "Sherry chef", Javi Muñoz, has decided to recover some of their most emblematic dishes.
This is a lovely restaurant that food lovers, I'm sure, would enjoy during a visit to the city. It can be easily combined with a visit to the Lustau sherry house as well, just steps away.

Maribel, I adored LA CARBONA! That restaurant, along with MAREA DE MARCOS, was my tops in Jerez, although I only had time for three dinners and the third one was also excellent (where you spied me as I entered with my African guardia cuerpo!!)*

My Jerez hotel was so fantastic that I believe the they were concerned as I ventured out alone in the drizzle to walk to A MAR, also a top Jerez eating place. So they sent along a staff member (Abdul from the Gambia, who was as lovely as they come) to escort me and hold high an umbrella lest a drop fall on me! That's service I'd not experienced before. Anyone headed for Jerez de la Frontera could not do better than HOTEL PALACIO MARIA LUISA, a small boutique hotel in a renovated palace. they even bid me adios by offering me a companion iso named Matteo who accompanied me for the rest of my trip and beyond! What a hotel!! Not one even minuscule item that I could imagine could be improved during my 3 night stay.

I so agree!
While I waited for our midnight rendezvous in the gorgeous terrace with the gurgling fountain, the handsome young waiter kept me company and told me all about his pending trip to NYC and the history of the hotel and its aristocratic owner, Marisa C. Azcárate, who has established the Kaiizen Hotel group, with a new property, Don Ramón, in Sevilla.

Jerez today (and last night for the pre-body) is the scene of yet another aristocratic wedding--the wedding of Victoria de Holenhohe, the Duquesa de Medinacelli, holder of 43 titles of nobility (say the gossip mags). Queen Maxima of the Netherlands is in attendance along with other nobles. I imagine many of the guests are staying at the Casa Palacio, as it´s just a short walk from the wedding venue, the Iglesia de San Miguel. (I've just read all about it in Hola!---how I spend my Sunday mornings! )

Well you know where I am turning right now---to look up the new hotel in Sevilla! I wish I could see that wedding! I was in Spain for the wedding of Felipe of Asturias, now king as you of course know, and saw it on tv!!!

But Maribel, is this the same Kaizen with hotels in India and Malaysia?

edit: Just looked up the hotel....wow! And great location as well. I wonder if they will have the ositos for the guests?

Maribel, look what you have done!!!! How can I pass so close to Sevilla and miss staying there? I was all set for Cordoba (not booked yet) and now look at the confusion that has come!!! And the location is so good...near those restaurants I love! So that would eliminate Jerez and Sanlucar:

Fly to MAD
Train to CORDOBA....4 nights
Be driven/take train to SEVILLA...3 nights
Drive/be driven to JEREZ airport; pick up car if not already picked up in Sevilla
Drive to VEJER..about 12 days, give or take, I forget
Drive to JEREZ, drop car and fly to MAD..stay 4 (?) nights
Tearfully, pack up things and fly home to US

Hi eks,
No, this is a different Kaizen that she created from Spanish house palaces---right now she has just the Casa Palacio María Luisa, the brand new Casa Palacio Don Ramón in Sevilla and the Malvasia in El Rocío, which I haven't seen. The lovely waiter on the terrace told me about the Don Ramón so I went to see it. I don´t know how many other projects she has in store.

Also don´t know if the Don Ramón has those cute ositos for the guests, as I didn't get to see the rooms, just the gorgeous downstairs and the lavishly decorated restaurant. It had a soft opening when I was in Sevilla. She has impeccable taste, as you well know.

Eks, you need more time in Madrid!!!! We don´t leave Madrid for the south until March 21 so we could get together on the 19th or 20th.

Here are some photos of that wedding of the fall
