San Diego and Palm Desert Trip Report
Family of 6 adults took a family trip to San Diego and Palm Springs area Jan 19-28 most of us from Toronto. We stayed in 2 corner one-bedroom suites at Embassy Suites Downtown Bayside. Hotel was well located, suites large; came with a full breakfast and 2 complementary drinks and a snack between 5:30-7 pm daily. There is a $25 daily resort fee per room which you can apply to the restaurant or the gift store but need to use daily. We were happy with the hotel.
First day after flight we went to La Cuatro Milapas for lunch; then to the Midway aircraft carrier museum.
We spent the next day at the zoo and Balboa Park. Dinner was at Fishmarket- average .
Following day we walked to Saturday little Italy Mercato, then to Old Town, then drove to Point Loma. Late in the day the lineup to get in was bumper to bumper and the low tide pool area was closed. We parked near the naval cemetery and had views from both sides. Dinner was at Puesto right by the hotel- it was excellent!
Sunday we drove to Torrey Pines State Park where we took several walks; quick stop at the then we went Torrey Pines Gliderport then to LaJolla shores- lunch at Dukes and walk along shoreside. Dinner again excellent at Kettner Exchange.
Following day some of us went whale watching with Next Level Sailing- trip was rough as there was a small vessel watch because of wind. We saw a couple of grey whales and trip was professional. Dinner was at hotel which was good. Weather was sunny the whole trip although a bit cooler than usual.
Next morning we drove to Palm Desert where we stayed with a friend. The drive was very scenic. We took a hike at 1000 Palms as well as visited the Holocaust Memorial near the Civic Centre. Later we visited Sunnylands Gardens.
Next day some golfed while the others visited Joshua Tree National Park. Later we went into palm Springs visiting the art museum , Thursday night street fair and a wonderful dinner at Tac/Quila. Next day we took the Palm Springs Aerial Tram up to the snow covered too for great views and a walk.
Flew home from the lovely Palm Springs Airport.
