Puerto Vallarta Beach hotel - Need a recommendation

Looking for a recommendation for a hotel on the beach in Puerto Vallarta. Would like a nice beach area, and close to town for walking in or a quick cab ride. It's for 3 women staying for a couple of nights after a golf trip in Nuevo Vallarta. Want to spend the last couple nights a little closer to town. We don't care if it's an all-inclusive or not , but definitely want to be on the beach. Moderately priced - $250 or so a night. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Closest to downtown (near the Malecon) is Villa Premiere. It's more of a boutique hotel but right on the beach and with swmming pool. Also Sheraton Bouganvilla.
In the Marina District - Westin and the Marriott. This is a little further away from downtown but still a short taxi ride. There are also some restaurants and shops within walking distance.

On the beach in Zona Romantica (aka Southside or old town) the hotels are: The Tropicana, Emperador, San Marino, Hotel Playa Los Arcos.

For more high-end places I agree with the suggestions in the Hotel Zone like Villa Premiere (walkable to downtown). Or The Marina like Marriott... but knowing there you are a taxi ride from downtown it's a bit too far to walk (about 5 miles from the Marriott to the Malecon, for example).

Only Emperador and San Marino are on the beach from those latest suggestions.
