Safari clothes + Cape Town and Victoria Falls

September visit.

I think I am set for tans & greens colors on safari. Question though….will a medium gray windbreaker be OK or is that too close to black?

What about dinner clothes? Can I wear a medium blue print blouse, coral print blouse, black top?
Or do I have to stick to beiges and light colors?

What about Cape Town during day touring, can I wear colors?

I’ve looked at a lot on line but it always seems that say to avoid any blues or blacks.

The only color restrictions I’m aware of are to avoid blue due to it attracting tse-tse flies and no camouflage since it is illegal in some countries for people who are not military to wear it. Maybe black is close to blue and thus may also attract tse-tse? I myself have worn a black fleece and pastel colors with khaki zip off pants/shorts. The khaki-earth tones are really just to hide any dust, no other “rule” around that.

No one at any camp I’ve been to actually dresses up for dinner, I wouldn’t bring anything special. I usually wear a light-weight long-sleeved hoodie with whatever pants I’m wearing the next day. A lot of people just wear what they wore all day.

Thanks Amy…..your comments are helpful. Since we will have 3 days in Cape Town I wasn’t sure if I would need “non-safari” clothes. I guess most people these days go everywhere in casual clothes.

Is light blue OK? Is it just the darker colors (royal blue to navy blue) that attract the flies?
