Central NJ to Niagara Falls

Planning a trip to NF, but husband wants to break up the drive with a stop 'somewhere' and spend the night, probably in both directions. I'm thinking the Finger Lakes, which I believe is about halfway to NF? Been to FL a few years ago, and really enjoyed hiking Watkins Glen and visiting some of the wineries. Any suggestions, whether FL or another area enroute are much appreciated. Thanks!

The one Finger Lakes winery tour that I went to many years ago was to Bully Hill Winery on the hill above Hammondsport NY. Hammondsport is on Keuka Lake. The tour at that time was led by Walter Taylor. In 1997 Coca Cola sued him to prevent him from putting his signature on his wine labels. Coca Cola won in the New York Supreme Court. Walter called present day "Taylor" wines "tank car wine" with no provenance as to where the vines are growing.
