One night in Milan

We will be in Italy March 24- April 1. Fly into Venice for a night, then Varenna/lake como 2 nights, Monterosso 3 nights and Milan 1.
Do we rent a car out of Venice or train the entire trip/partial trip (drop off before Monterosso)? Can you drop off at the Central train station. 2.Last night in Milan, we have a 6:40 AM flight out of Malpensa. Do we stay near the airport or the city and just taxi it early.
Thanks in advance!

Just curious but why fly into Venice? RT Milan better. I would stay at MXP the night before your 0640 flight. There is a decent Sheraton right in the airport.

we are bringing our daughter to Italy for the first time and landing in Venice and taking a water taxi to your hotel is magical.

A taxi ride from the city to MXP T1 takes about 1 hr and costs about 140 USD. The first airport train and the first airport bus arrive at MXP both around 5.40 (too late). Fare: 12 USD/pax.
