Extended Family Trip to Puerto Rico During COVID?
So, this is the thread where I ask you to predict that will be happening in January 2021. 
Because our three children (16, 14, and 12) will be attending school virtually due to COVID, we are thinking about spending a month of two in Puerto Rico in January and February to escape the cold of the Washington DC area. Does anyone have any thoughts on if this is a good or bad idea? I understand the risks of flying and I'll worry about those another time, but I'm wondering--besides that--do you think this is even feasible? Our other option is to drive down to Florida although FL is kind of a hot mess right now. Not sure if we want to be spending time there or not. We don't plan to do much because no one can do much because of COVID. We will work (virtually), the kids will go to school (virtually), we will swim, go to the beach, and enjoy the warm weather. We figured this is a once in a lifetime opportunity--if we can actually get there and find a place. We were interested in the Rincon area but I thought we could also spend some time near Luquillo or in Vieques.

Right now In Puerto Rico all tours and excursions are closed across the island. Pools and beaches are closed for swimming and can be used for exercise only - no sunbathing nor "hanging out" (coolers, chairs, beach blanket, beach umbrellas not permitted). Masks are required in public at all times. Stores and businesses are open at 50% capacity, as are restaurants.
What the situation in both Puerto Rico and your current home will be next January and February is anyone’s guess so it’s really impossible for anyone to make any accurate predictions.
Unless you are content with spending most of your vacation time staying in your rental home/condo and not being able to go out and about I wouldn’t make any concrete plans just yet. Instead do some general planning but don’t make any commitments. The best advice would be for you to continue to monitor the the CDC and other governmental websites so that when restrictions begin to ease you’ll be in a better position to make an informed decision. What ever you decide avoid paying any non-refundable deposits until you are sure you’ll be able to travel and make full use of your stay.

Thank you so much for your response. I did not know that about the beaches so that is important information. We weren't planning on doing much besides hanging out at the beach and the pool (no restaurant or excursions for us until after COVID) but not being able to actually go to a beach is definitely a bummer. You are right; we are just going to have to wait this out and see what happens. Thanks again for responding.

Not only beaches, I know (this is Puerto Vallarta Mexico I keep track of, and the current situation not predicting out until next year) many resort, hotel, and even condo building pools are closed.
