New Jersey to Wilmington North carolina

Hi, I go back and forth between New Jersey and Wilmington North carolina and take I95 to I40 to Wilmington NC.
The traffictraffic through DC and most of Virginia is horrendous except late at night.
Is there a way to bypass traffic in DC and close proximity Virginia? I'd rather lose some time and slow down
to avoid the traffic.

Which state are you a native of? Is your job considered "essential"? There is a ferry still running from Cape May NJ to Lewes DE (two trips per day). After Memorial Day it is schedules to increase to 4X day. You can drive straight through Delaware to avoid a 14 day quarantine now in effect.

We drove CT to Wilmington often when DS was at UNCW and so I feel your pain. That was in the ore-WAZE days so we tried all the combinations. Usually there was a slow down in D C, but sometimes getting through Baltimore was an adventure. We usually left home before 4 am to get through NYC by 7 and through DC before noon.

Now I would probably trust WAZE or one of th other programs to tell me when to take an alternarive route.

Taking the Cape May ferry and the Bay bridge/tunnel then down 17 is fun but not faster at all. We usually stopped for the night and some fun at Chincoteague and visited the ponies in the national park.

Hi Oldmalloy

What is WAZE?

Did you try Route 17 around DC and Virginia?

WAZE is a free app for routing a trip and finding out about traffic problems and rerouting suggestions.

Yes, what Gretchen said. You can put WAZE on your phone or iPad, etc. and it will tell you where there are problems ahead as well as routes to take to avoid trouble. They track the speeds and users give them information about all kinds of things like cars stopped on the road, potholes, police, accidents. The map has colors for the roads, green for normal speed, yellow for slow, red for stopped or very slow. I think google uses them too.
