Thanks, travsolo.
The tourist infrastructure in Iceland has indeed improved, but there still seems to be that soupçon of insouciance about tourists being happy and/or comfortable. Okay by me, just noticed with some amusement in a few different cases.

It sounds as if Iceland has changed quite a lot even in the 9 years since we were there [I know it was 9 years ago because it was in July 2008, just before the crash!].
Thanks for sharing it, and the rest of your trip with us.
And condolences on the death of your friend.

And sadly, it seems to be the only laundromat in all of Reykjavik.
We spent entirely too many hours there in May, wrangling with their spastic equipment.

Well said! Iceland left us feeling quite ambivalent...and confused.

*blushing slightly* Thanks, MarnieWDC. I could easily have spent even more time in both Estonia and Finland, somewhat to my surprise. Each place I go I want to go back, but then there are so many more places to explore...the eternal conundrum of the traveler.
