What is a restricted traffic zone in Switzerland?

I am planning a road trip in the region between Geneva and Bern, and I noticed in via Michelin that in many roads there is a "restricted traffic zone" warning.

Does anyone know what that means? What kind of traffic is restricted? Does it depend on type of vehicle,or time of day?

For example, it shows only two roads from Interlaken to Bern, and both have the same warning. So there is no way of getting from one to the other if traffic is restricted!

Can someone please explain. Thanks in advance.

That means only that you will need a Swiss motorway sticker, nothing else.
