Rome Subway system guide?
Will be staying near Termini and hope to use the subway a few times.
I realize the Rome system won't get me everywhere, but we prefer not to ride the bus.
Looks like we can get close to the Vatican/Colloseum at least. Ostia Antica?
Is there a guide for use? Multi-ride tickets, or pay as you go?

There are two different websites to look at.
ATAC is the Rome city transit company
https://viaggiacon.atac.roma.it/
You can also use Google Maps. ATAC and Google have had a deal for awhile now. Your phone should show the next arrival time for example.
Cotral is the regional bus service
http://servizi.cotralspa.it/percorsitariffe
ATAC site works reasonably well. The Cotral used to work even better showing a combine route not just the Cotral buses. Lately it's a disaster. If you use tomorrows date it basically works. Try and put anything much further out in and it doesn't.
Ostia Antic would require you to switch to a train . The ATAC website will give you the full route.
There are single tickets and passes. IMHO most people staying in central Rome are better off walking but
https://www.atac.roma.it/en/tickets-and-passes
That explains the options.

Agree & I usually walk with an occassional cab ride, but may have a few in our group that prefer less walking.
Still no Uber in Rome?

Uber is, technically, in Rome but not worth a bucket of warm spit. The Italian taxi drivers have managed to throttle uber by getting regulations enacted that make it noncompetitive. Only the more expensive uber services are available, and reliability is lousy. After several uber rides cancelled, we gave up on them in Rome. We found that the best app to summon a cab is itTaxi which is available for both Apple and Android phones. Works a lot like uber.

**we prefer not to ride the bus.**
Are you opposed to trams also?
mappa-linee-tranviarie.pdf
You might get the value of the 72 hour Roma Pass (52€) which includes transport. If you use it for two of the more expensive sites first and use the transport much, it might be worthwhile. It deducts the first two you visit as your two free.
FWIW - You do a lot of walking in some of the metro stations underground including Termini. If that's an issue with some of your group, you might want to get taxis instead.
I miss the little electric buses that used to run thru the historic center. I wish they would restart them.
