Hurtigruten Bergen - Kirkenes (2011) from home

In 2011, Norwegian TV NRK did a live programme of the 5 day Hurtigruten voyage Bergen - Kirkenes, and a good soul put all of it on youtube as one big playlist.

"2011" turned out to be a huge event after the 1st day, and you'll be welcomed at every stop with a brassband, a school choir and the mayor. As you turn towards North Norway, coastal communities will turn out. Lots of people waving from shore and at every port an armada of small boats bringing us in. On long stretches you'll get documentaries on Hurtigruten itself and on lighthouses, or local culture etc. Some great moments are sailing into Geirangerfjord while a pianist plays and explains Grieg, the Norwegian army brass quintet in Harstad. And Ålesund has great school bands. Also the stop in Stokmarknes is a high point, because that's where Hurtigruten was "born".

Here's a NYT piece about Hurtigruten: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/...en-norway.html

Every evening you can start the playlist at 21.30 Norwegian time and enjoy.

Thanks for the links. I am so not a cruise person, but I loved my 2015 Bergen to Kirkenes voyage on the Kong Harald (no jacuzzis then, lol).

Wow. Very binge-worthy. Wish there were subtitles in English...or I spoke Norwegian.

This is the only cruise I can tolerate, but I wish the boats were smaller...

We are not cruisers either and also enjoyed sailing from Bergen to Kirkenes but on the Trollfjord. We did have a little time on the Lofoten Islands.

Depends on your day of sailing and the ship on that particular day. NRK ended up on Nordnorge, because they wanted a midsummer program.
But if I had to choose, my Hurtigruten ship of choice would be the Midnatsol, and for nostalgia's sake the Lofoten.

Old Hurtigruten ships from the 50s were around for a little while in 2011: we meet the Nordstjernen for instance, that would go out of service a few years later.
