Gironde region of France - 1 hour SE of Bordeaux

We have an opportunity to stay in a home in Preignac, SE of Bordeaux, for 3 weeks in June. We will have a car. Any thoughts?

I've done a few stays in this area and cycled around it while also taking the canal du midi south of there. It would be lovely, I'd want to know if there was a bar/local store/restaurant near by and a car would be vital. But for sure, if you want to get away from it all it would be lovely.

Along the river to the north are a series of small towns with local wine production (sweet) and Cote de Bordeaux also offers you red wines while the larger area is a wine fantastic area. Local food will have a lot of duck in it.

Bordeaux would be your local big town and is a good visit. Other than that you need to want to be in the countryside, visit little churches, cycle, golf/tennis possible access to a pool. I'd love it.

Do you speak French?

It should be lovely. We once spent a few days a few miles away at Cadillac and loved the area. Lots of interesting places to visit within an hour's drive or so including Bordeaux and as the area is relatively flat hiring bikes might be fun too. I hope you have a great time.

Hello, Thank you for your thoughts. We do not speak French. We could hire bikes (I think one comes with the house). We enjoy flat bicycling and sweet wines. There is a shop/post/restaurant in the village and a larger town about 10 minutes away. We would love any more ideas. This forum has always been a wonderful resource!

Thanks, so much. I realized you sent these to me when I was first considering this area. Yes, very beautiful. We just are being thrown with the high airfares in June and, hence, giving us room to pause... But, feeling lucky to be able to even consider this adventure.
